Shakespeare For My Birthday

Who wouldn't want Shakespeare for their birthday?!?

Tim took me this year to do something very "Tim and Suzy." We went to the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival at Boscobel, in Garrison, NY to see Cymbeline. This youtube clip is what we saw, basically... It was a great way to rekindle and reminisce a bit before our little guy comes (5 weeks from now).

Boscobel is a private 19th century country estate that overlooks the east bank of the Hudson River Valley. It's gorgeous. It has a huge rose garden and apple orchard, even an orangerie. The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival is there every year and they set up this incredible tent that has stadium-type seating. (That is the funky white thing behind me in this picture...) And the rest of the grounds is dedicated to a picnicking area right before the show. Tim packed up a nice little spread for us and we got a great picnic spot, right on the bluff overlooking the Hudson. It was gorgeous.

The show itself was great, too. The costumes were incredible and the way they used their space was really cool. At times, we had a bit of trouble hearing some of the characters, but for the most part, we had pretty good seats. Most of the actors were great; two of them cracked us up because they were eerily reminiscent of characters on Arrested Development. (Who knew that Shakespeare had such a sense of humor?!?) Too funny.

What a nice way to spend an afternoon!
