Birthday Grrrl

Today is sweet little Emma's first birthday. I can't even believe it has gone by that fast. My little niece is now a one year old! Uncle Tim and Aunt Suzy, well, we couldn't be more proud.

Now for a little story time:

It was around this time last year that my mom and I were absolutely FREAKING out because we hadn't heard anything from my big sister about whether or not she was in labor. (Mom knew she had started having contractions and whatnot the day before, but Beck was radio silent for nearly 24 hrs.) I had to work that day, so I went in at 9:00 and I couldn't focus on anything. My boss suggested calling the hospital up in Canada where she was, so I put on my librarian hat and went to work trying to locate a number that could connect me. I tell you, those four different Canadian women I spoke to went out of their way to help me find my sister.

When I was finally connected with their room, Jerry answered the phone and told me I had a brand new niece. You know how there are certain unforgettable moments in your life that you'll always remember where you were at a particular time? Well, this was one of those special moments for me. I remember getting all emotional in my office at work while Jerry told me how my big sis was doing and how Emma's birth went. And he was so pleased that I had tracked them down and was the first family member to hear the news. Special memory.

Tim and I are godparents to this awesome baby grrrl and we are so happy to be a part of her life. Happy birthday Em! We wish we could have been at your party to see you experience cake for the first time!
