Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everybody!  This was a crazy year for us because I wanted to get one last family costume in before Oscar gets too big to refuse.  He was a tough sell this year, I tell you what.  Whoo buddy.  And these costumes had to be somewhat simple to create, as I cannot find ANYTHING in my house yet.  That what happens when you have only 2 weeks to pack up and move!  I still cannot seem to find my dang clothes hangers...

Anyway, we went with a group costume this year to welcome our newest (and last) member of the fam.  We did "Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin." The boys shirts were freezer paper stencils, my shirt is a reversible-appliqued maternity shirt with a freezer papered pumpkin and sewn leaves, and Tim's is a white hoodie with some serious alterations and a red duct tape collar.  All in all, we spent about $50 bucks on our total ensemble.  Ahh yeah.

This year we went to the Jonesborough ("oldest town in TN") downtown events and to our church for a "trunk or treat." Oscar loved the whole idea of people giving him candy, especially Reeses and M&Ms.  You couldn't find a happier boy than him.  He told me today that he "REALLY loves living in Tennessee."  I think he seems to think Halloween is just a TN thing.

Halloween Recovery

What is Halloween without a dash of fun and a sprinkle of frustration?!? Well, I've gotta say that I'm thrilled to have just gotten through this year's festivities. It's taken me a week to recover from trying to get a two year old to play "dress up." I thought this gig was supposed to get easier. Whatever!

Anyway, this year we were kind of lax on doing a whole lot of fall festivities. I'm 30 weeks pregnant and Oscar is deep in the throngs of the "terrible two" stage, not to mention all the company we've had lately. All of these things, plus me having to work extra to make ends meet, has put a damper on my favorite holiday. Ah well. Better luck next year!

We did at least do some costumes and parading this Halloween however. We met up with Andy and his (adorable) girlfriend Rachel in Washington Square Park in the city to participate in the Children's Parade. Oz got to sport his Handy Manny outfit to the masses and I'm happy to say that we never saw any other Handy Mannys this year! Tim and I dressed up too. I wanted to incorporate my seven-month pregnant belly in a tasteful way, so I went as our solar system and Tim was Galileo. With as low budget and as much work as all three costumes turned out to be, I'm thrilled that they turned out pretty decently! Yeah, but I don't recommend trying to come up with an Italian Renaissancey robe with only two yards of material. THAT was plum crazy. Tim was a trooper though. He wore tights and everything. What a guy. He also pulled an all-nighter with me the night before to paint, in detail, the nine planets. And they are AMAZING. Way to go, love.

Felt Food Fridays

Happy Halloween, everyone! I've saved this special little pumpkin specifically for this weekend. I hope it's a happy one for you, reader!

Not Entirely Wordless Wednesday

This was a fun Halloween. I can't remember what year it was, because I always think of Halloweens according to what was worn that year. This was the year that Jeremy was "Winnie the Pooh." Heh. Actually, he was supposed to be the "Cowardly Lion" and Christie was the "Scarecrow," but Christie and I had just learned to sew, and our sewing abilities had not yet begun to flourish, if you know what I mean. (If you look closely, you can see Jeremy sitting down near a heavily bearded Tim. Tim was "Gimli" that year and I had just learned how to apply a fake beard. Ahh yeah.)

Well, one of the reasons I posted this picture is because it is the only one I have from this Halloween. That makes me sad, because this is not even a great picture, it's kind of messed up on the edges. I was digging out my Halloween decorations and I noticed this in a frame that had just gotten totally ruined. I had to toss the frame (it had fogger liquid all over it) but I needed to save the picture because I don't even have the negative of this anymore! This was taken pre-digital camera.

So I posted this as a cry to my public. If you read this blog and you attended my Halloween party that year and have pictures of this event (yes, I'm talking to you, Christie & Jeremy or Rachel & Chris, Zach, Melissa, or maybe even Betsy) would you please send me copies? Pretty Please! I don't even have a picture of my outfit, dagnabbit. I was Lady Galdriel of the Elves. I even put on fake elf ears and wore a blond wig that kept riding up because of my big ole head. Anyway, I would love to be able to look at some pictures from that. There is something to be said about digital cameras, for real.
