Pregnancy Halloween Costumes...

It is SO hard trying to figure out what to do for Halloween when you have a six/seven month pregnant belly to factor in.  And I have standards.  Halloween is a big deal in our household.  When I was pregnant with Charlie, Tim and I came up with a winner costume pair. I was the "Milky Way" (haahaa) and Tim was Galileo.  Here are our costumes from 2010:

And I just found out I was featured in a couple of different places for cool pregnancy costumes!  Sweet.  Here are the links to the different places I found our pictures... I'm so proud! The first one is from one of my favorite blogs, Modern Kiddo.  They always do a handmade Halloween costume parade which is always so fun.  If you don't already follow Alix and Dottie, you really should.  They are so fun!  Someday I want to meet them and we will all go thrifting together.

The others didn't link back, but it's pretty fun finding yourself in random places... On another blog I read, Prudent Baby, one of the bloggers works for Babble and she put up our picture in a group of fun pregnancy costumes - 10 DIY Costumes for Pregnant Mamas.  That was cool.  Then the rabbit trail leads from there... We were also pictured here on Lovelyish and MyTidewaterMoms.

The costumes were easy enough to make.  We hand-painted the planets from a craft store styrofoam box kit.  Tim got really into that - Earth and Jupiter look pretty incredible.  And I sewed up a reverse applique shirt with the sun on my belly.  Then Tim stitched the planets onto my sleeves.  (Note: wait until you actually have the shirt on before attempting to put styrofoam balls all over your arms. They are major performance hindrances.  Trust me on that one.)  And the star headband is just felt stars stitched onto some elastic.  Tim's costume is just a simple black corduroy tunic with a detachable bib.  He even wore tights for me.  (Now that is love.)  Tim made his scope out of PVC.

So we've set the bar pretty high for pregnancy costumes.  I have a few ideas so far for this year, though...  We'll see how they pan out.   (And yes, we are still in the thick of renovating and unpacking.  I spent an entire week painting trim and refinishing kitchen cabinets.  SO tired!)

Suzy, you seriously amaze me. I have a dear friend who you remind me of in terms of Hallowe'en costume ideas. You both have hubbies who will go to great lengths for the perfect pair of costumes and they always turn out stellar! Well done :)

Wow! This has to be the most unique idea I've seen for a pregnancy costume yet! It's cool to see that the planets seem like they're floating too!
